An Afternoon In The Park

We are lying on our backs in the park, looking up at the sky. We are covered in lollipop residue, and are in companianable silence.

He starts to tickle me, and I laugh loudly, then turn to him and smile. "I love you," I tell him, and he flashes me a smile so wide and beaming that it not only lights up his face, but the entire park.

I try not to think about what will happen in the future, what will change and what will stay the same, and how it will affect our relationship.

There is a chill in the air, and we decide to move on. He grabs my hand, pulls me up, and for a moment we stand and grin at each other.

I reach for his hand, and he holds it tight. "Where shall we go now?" I ask him.

He ponders for a moment, and tells me. "Let's go and feed the ducks, Mummy."

So off we go into the future, my son and I.
